Through our specialist training programs, consulting services, and system-development capabilities, Elect provides organisations with the tools to thrive in safer and healthier working environments. Led by Executive Director Mark Small, Elect is proud to offer high calibre safety solution options to corporate organisations. Training can be conducted at a convenient location to your business or at Elect's training facilities located in the Perth Central Business District.

Mark Small

As a passionate Safety Professional, Mark Small is driven to create safer and healthier workplaces through his expertise in workplace health and safety, risk management, training, and investigations.

Mark is an Adjunct Lecturer with Edith Cowan University, where he teaches incident investigations. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Health & Safety, Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, and Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute. Additionally, he is an Exemplar Global-certified Lead Auditor, ICAM Lead Investigator, and a licensed Investigator in Western Australia.

Professional Experience & Leadership

With more than 20 years of experience as a Safety Professional, Mark has worked across various industries, leading safety initiatives and risk management strategies. He has conducted complex investigations both in Australia and overseas, bringing a wealth of expertise in regulatory compliance, legal frameworks, and workplace incident analysis.

Beyond safety, Mark has extensive management and board experience, having held leadership positions such as President, Chairman, Executive Director, Chief Operating Officer, and General Manager. He has chaired both profit and not-for-profit boards for over a decade, demonstrating a strong commitment to governance and strategic leadership.

Mark is a Life Member and past President of the Energy Club WA and past Chairman of the Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation (STS Leeuwin II). He has also served as Chairman of the Flying Angel Club in Fremantle, part of the Mission to Seafarers, supporting the welfare of seafarers visiting Western Australian ports.

Maritime & Investigations Background

Mark has a strong maritime background, having previously held a Master Class III and Marine Engine Driver Grade I Certificate of Competency. In addition to his seagoing experience, he has held shore-based roles, including six years with Fremantle Ports in various operational and management positions.

He has also been responsible for managing an Offshore and Maritime Training Centre, overseeing the delivery of Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) and Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organization (OPITO) courses, ensuring high-quality training for offshore and maritime professionals.

Earlier in his career, Mark served as an Australian Customs Officer in the National Marine Unit, where he gained extensive experience in border security, maritime law enforcement, and investigations.
