Course Overview
This Asbestos Awareness Training course is specifically developed to educate and equip individuals who may encounter asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) in their workplace. Asbestos remains a significant hazard in many older buildings and structures, posing serious health risks to workers if disturbed. This training aims to raise awareness about asbestos, providing detailed insights into recognizing potential ACMs, understanding the associated health hazards, and effectively managing and minimizing the risks of exposure. Participants will gain essential knowledge and practical strategies to comply with WA legislation, adhere to industry best practices, and implement robust safety standards to ensure workplace safety and health protection.
This course is based on the Code of Practice - How to manage and control asbestos in the workplace.
Learning Outcomes
Participants will gain an awareness of:
Health risks of asbestos
Types, uses and likely presence of asbestos in the workplace
The PCBU’s and the worker’s roles and responsibilities under the asbestos management plan
The asbestos register and the information contained in it
Processes and methods to be followed to prevent exposure, including exposure from any accidental release of airborne asbestos
The correct use of PPE including respiratory protective equipment (RPE)
The implementation of control measures and safe work methods to eliminate or minimise the risks associated with asbestos to limit the exposure to workers and other persons,
The exposure standards and control levels for asbestos
Purpose of any exposure monitoring or health monitoring that may occur
On Completion
Participants will be issued with a Certificate of Attendance.
